The Zentangle Method has many benefits. Practicing the Zentangle Method is much like yoga or meditation. With it you can enjoy mindfulness, relaxation, inspiration, improved hand/eye coordination and many other benefits, all while creating beautiful works of art.
What if I can’t draw?
Don’t worry. If you can draw a simple S curve, an C curve, a dot, an O, and a line – you can tangle.
What is the difference between the Zentangle Method and Doodling?
Because of its theory and approach, the Zentangle Method is quite different than doodling. Zentangles have rules concerning style, visual composition, recurring patterns, shapes etc. Unlike doodling, Zentangle is based on being mindful. When following the Zentangle method, each pen-stroke is deliberate and mindfully drawn, without any expectations of the outcome or planning the next stroke.
How did the Zentangle Method come about?
If you find yourself wondering – what is Zentangle? – this is best described in the words of Rick and Maria:
One day, Maria told Rick what she experienced as she drew background patterns on a manuscript she was creating. She described her feelings of timelessness, freedom and well-being and complete focus on what she was doing with no thought or worry about anything else.
“You’re describing meditation,” Rick said.
Rick and Maria wondered if they could create a simple system so others might enjoy a similar experience. And so began the journey towards discovering this simple and elegant system called Zentangle.
Little did they know then that it would grow this quickly and touch as many lives in as many ways as it has.
